Hey team,

There are many different ways to identify a global citizen. Varying opinions and ideals about worldview could contribute to an individual’s perspective. Consideration for others’ cultures and a willingness to be absorbed into their cultural surroundings are also signs of a global citizen.

Hungary
In our opinion, being a global citizen means being involved with the community and decisions that are being made around you; decisions that impact your daily life are both directly and indirectly conceived from your input. Relating to the recent Alberta election, someone may consider that being a global citizen means participating in government endeavours. However, our opinion is that being a global citizen would actually require some investment into the research of background and goals for the parties.

Slovakia
This past week we travelled from Vienna, Austria to Bratislava, Slovakia. After this trip, we travelled from Bratislava, Slovakia to Budapest, Hungary. Although the differences in these cultures appeared subtle on the surface, the differences were more meaningful as we learned more from these interesting environments. A respect and curiosity for these cultures lends itself to being a global citizen, as being a global citizen encourages cultural consideration and curiosity.

How do you effectively contribute to being a global citizen? Is it through travel, research, or perhaps an interest in imported wine? Drop us a line!

Austria
P.S. We would like to acknowledge that it’s Cinco de Mayo today, so you can definitely become a global citizen by supporting Mexico’s tequila industry! Cheers!

All the best,
Ashlee & David
