Hi all, welcome back to our blog! Today Michael and I were able to tour around Budapest where we were discussing limiting factors of our world view. A worldview explains how information is received and interpreted by a person at a global level. With the ever increasing technology, the world is becoming smaller in a sense, however, there are still limitations to our views. We have noticed that our daily source of media could greatly skew and impact our view, particularly because the media may present a biased viewpoint. We have also noticed that people tend to rely heavily on the same news source which greatly limits your worldview perspective.
Before this trip we noticed that the information we had read about these countries and their government, was simply an intellectual experience. We did not have perspective to understand what these significant events meant. We found that without traveling and experiencing these countries we did not truly understand what we were reading. We have realized that the biggest inhibitor of our world view was our lack of experience.
Another limitation on one’s worldview may be from relying too heavily on their own perspective and bias. Some people seem to believe that European people do not make jokes or laugh. This was proven wrong when we went to the Hofburg, and quickly caught on to their constant sarcastic humor. In this instance, people may be afraid to tell a joke in fear of insulting someone. This limitation of the world view may limit travelers overall experience.
We have found that the best way to expand our world view is to travel, explore other cultures, opinions, and even foods! By observing different cultures we will have a greater probability of immersing and understanding other cultures. What limitations have you noticed that you hold?
(This picture was taken at the UN and all the flags reminded how big the world really was!)
Thanks for reading!
Stephanie & Michael
